Do I Qualify?

There are several strict requirements which must be met before a foster home can accept children. Among these are:

  • Clear vulnerable sector criminal background check

  • No prior child welfare investigations where allegations were verified

  • Medical clearance from a family doctor stating:

    • No known communicable diseases

    • No untreated mental health issues or other disorders which would preclude safely caring for children

    • Physically able to care for children

  • One free bedroom with a built-in closet

  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residency

  • Valid driver’s license and access to/ownership of a vehicle (leases not accepted)

  • Commitment to attending training, adhereing to policies and procedures and openly participating in a home study

There are other requirements for foster homes, however, the above list is the minimum necessary in order to apply. Other requirements such as smoke detectors in the rooms designated for foster children can be resolved during the application, training and evaluation processes.
